Innovation and change: Hallmarks of 2023, opportunities for 2024

Reflecting on 2023 brings two overarching themes into focus: innovation and change. Both are pivotal in driving success, and each speak to an exciting future.

Innovation: Packaging Portfolio and a new My Solution showcased at MIAC 2023

The MIAC 2023 Conference provided an opportunity for tissue industry professionals to experience several key solutions for improving production efficiencies, competitive advantage, and outcomes:

• Casmatic B23: A merger and complete redesign of the already popular CMB 202 and 202 EVO bundlers that features revamped, advanced software and hardware, a redesigned frame with modular segments and continuous-feed chain belts constructed from individual, detachable panels to minimize product shifting and machinery maintenance. The modular design simplifies and reduces installation time by up to 40% over current bundler solutions, and reduces the equipment footprint by about 30%
• Casmatic F12: The consistency and trustworthiness of the Casmatic brand combined with folded product packaging capabilities that deliver high-quality outcomes at speeds up to 120 packs/minute, and can run either poly or paper packaging to support sustainability initiatives
• Casmatic Omnia 1000: Designed to overcome the longstanding challenge of splitting product rows into multiple channels at high speeds, the dual-frame diverter mechanism of this patent-pending diverter coordinates flow between launchers, channels, and product conveyor belts for high-speed, adjustable production. Each component of the diverter system is independently motorized for configurations for one, some, of all of the eight available channels as well as bypassing — to achieve diverter speed reaching a maximum of 1,000 rolls/minute
• MTC MyWize: A My bundle line solution that integrates a folding head and steel/steel embosser to produce W or Z multifold products. When used in conjunction with the solution’s other units — unwinder, in-line bundler, and log saw — MTC MyWize can obtain a maximum speed up to 250 m/min or 10 logs/min, and handle parent reels with widths up to 1.9 m

Change: Valmet strategically acquires Kӧrber Business Area Tissue

After the acquisition of the Körber Business Area Tissue by Valmet, we now operate as Tissue Converting Business Unit within the Valmet Group.

We integrates advanced tissue converting process technologies and related services into what is now the widest product portfolio in the market. Capabilities cover the entire tissue value chain from fiber to finished tissue products —as well as offering the broadest tissue customer coverage globally.

The combination forms a strong basis to create new business opportunities, as Pasi Laine, President and CEO of Valmet, explains:
