Maintenance Data improves performance & reliability - webinar

Aug 3, 2021

Key roles for good maintenance are well set targets, good maintenance strategy, skilled personnel and systems that support all of this. A good and effectively used computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) is required to plan and follow up maintenance well and implement preventive maintenance operations. Maintenance data establishment is a prerequisite for effective maintenance operations and a base for efficient use of the CMMS. Historical data analysis can be performed in a reliable way and development operation is easier to carry out if maintenance data content is in good shape in the CMMS.

Valmet's Machine Maintenance Data service can make this happen. A webinar on this topic was presented on August 11th, 2021 by Byron Muhs, a Valmet expert in the field. Click HERE to view this webinar.

Maintenance Data Development is a team effortIn the webinar, Byron describes the maintenance data content delivery, including preventive maintenance plans, support materials for preventive and corrective operations, spare part and storage recommendations. The benefits of Maintence Data Development by Valmet include:

  • Prevent unplanned shutdowns
  • Efficiently handle maintenance data with thousands of objects
  • Quickly find spare parts, drawings and manuals in breakdown situations
  • Focus on the most important assets - high value and critical
  • Continuously plan and develop after data implementation
  • Effectively use existing resources
  • Preventive maintenance ensures high technical availability
  • Improve maintenance effect on mill profitability

Here is an example of what is covered in the webinar:

Criticality analysis and preventive maintenance tasks

Criticality analysis is one part of Valmet's reliability-centered maintenance planning process. The purpose of the criticality analysis is to help concentrate preventive maintenance where it is needed the most. The criticality analysis is a tool for rank ordering pieces of equipment based on their relative criticality.

The scope of the service includes a preventive maintenance plan pre-coordinated by Valmet specialists and required the underlying work. The preparation of preventive maintenance plans is based on criticality analysis findings, so that equipment's preventive maintenance plan depends on its criticality.

Maintenance item Description Interval (weeks) Planned hours Operation shutdown
Breast Roll Clean the surface of the roll by using extension when needed. Check the roll coating. There shouldn't be any damage such as cracks or uneven wear. 4 0.5 Shutdown
Breast Roll / Bearings TS & DS Check operation of the circulation oil lubrication. Check that the set value is correct. 13 0.2 Operation
Breast Roll TS & DS Check the head plates sealing against the roll body. 13 0.5 Shutdown
Breast Roll / Cover Inspect the roll coating for cracks, stripes and other possible damage. If the coating is damaged, schedule a roll change. 13 0.5 Shutdown
Breast Roll / Hoses TS & DS Check the condition of lubrication hoses. Check especially for leaks. Replace the hoses if necessary. 26 0.5 Shutdown
Breast Roll Change the breast roll. 52 5 Shutdown

Example of preventive maintenance plan (only a few of many columns are shown here)

The result of preventive maintenance planning is a schedule itemizing and allocating responsibility for the required preventive maintenance tasks. A preventive maintenance plan typically will be prepared at the functional location level.
