Valmet Corporation's trade press release on March 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. EET

Valmet has received an order for a multivariable process controller from Boliden's zinc plant in Kokkola, Finland. Valmet's solution will be commissioned at the end of the second quarter 2016. The order is included in Valmet's first quarter 2016 orders received. The value of the order is not disclosed.

Earlier, Valmet conducted an extensive performance and feasibility study for the Boliden plant. The study clearly showed the major improvement and development potential that can be achieved by using advanced controls in the process.

"In this project, we are able to combine all Valmet's control and modeling expertise to offer Boliden a solution to manage the quality of its processes better. One of the targets is to reduce process variability," remarks Teijo Salonpää, Solution Manager, Automation, Valmet.

Enabling Industrial Internet utilization

The Valmet DNA multivariable predictive controller (MPC) is a computer program based on the PC Windows platform. It reads different variables such as chemical consumption and flow rates, and then adjusts new setpoints for DCS-resident PID controllers.

As advanced process control, the multivariable controller is one example of Valmet's Industrial Internet solutions that are built on the intelligent machines and advanced automation technology developed and provided for the pulp, paper, energy and process industries. Since their introduction in the 2000s, Valmet has supplied over 320 advanced process control installations for process optimization in all types of processes.
