Customer case:

Ensured roll reliability and improved performance through roll service agreement

Jun 21, 2018

To ensure its paper machine roll reliability and availability, the Kerinci mill has entered a full-scope roll service agreement, including a condition monitoring system. Cooperation started in 2014 on consulting basis and extended in 2016 when PM 3 started up. Customer wanted Valmet to move from earlier advisory role to having real responsibility for roll maintenance and workshop operations.

We don’t need Valmet for changing the rolls. We have our own team for that. We need Valmet’s advice and experience to avoid unwanted surprises,”
says Pasi Ahonen, Mill Manager at Kerinci

Summary

Location APRIL's Kerinci mill in Riau province, Indonesia
Customer targets The targets for the agreement were to ensure roll reliability, gain value from predictive maintenance and avoid unwanted surprises.
Solutions Full scope roll agreement
  • The agreement combines roll maintenance and remote condition monitoring enabling maintenance operations based on real needs and not just regular schedules
  • Valmet takes full responsibility for roll management and maintenance operations
  • Valmet develops and maintain a five-year maintenance plan for all paper machine, winder and pulp dryer rolls with scheduled roll exchange plans and cost estimates
Results The value comes from the competence.

“As for value, it is mainly a question of competence: it’s much wiser to depend on people who do this as their main job and have long experience in roll maintenance,” says Ahonen.

With the help of remote analysis problems can be detected before they develop into machine failures.

We think that one plus one is more than two, and in this way, we can offer all the benefits of predictive maintenance in one contract.”
