The function of the retention bin is to provide sufficient reaction time for the impregnated chips. Steam is added to obtain optimum reaction temperature.
An agitator placed in the bin bottom ensures optimal material distribution to the discharging screw conveyor, which feeds the following leveling bin. The reaction bin consists of a chip inlet at the top, conical tower with steam-inlet connections, an agitator and one or two screw conveyors.
The agitator is driven by AC-motors via planetary gear units and a slewing gear. The screw conveyors are driven by frequency controlled AC-motors via shaft-mounted gear reducers and journaled in pillow blocks with spherical roller bearings. The screw shafts are equipped with replaceable shaft ends. The agitator and screw shafts are sealed with stuffing boxes
