Valmet to supply an extensive automation and data collection solution to Gasum's biogas plants

Valmet Oyj's trade press release on December 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. EET

Valmet will supply a Valmet DNA automation system to three biogas plants owned by Gasum. Additionally, Valmet will supply a Valmet DNA Integrated Operations solution for centralized data collection and container logistics management to all of Gasum's biogas plants and gas filling stations in Finland and Sweden.

The solutions will enable Gasum to centrally control and collect more information from its operations. The company will also be able to manage its growing filling station network outside its pipeline network. The delivery is part of Gasum's comprehensive system modernization.

The orders are included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2017 orders received. The systems and solutions will be delivered during the first and second quarters of 2018.

"The Valmet DNA system will increase process safety, as PLCs are no longer used. The same system is already used elsewhere in Gasum, so integration within the corporation will improve significantly," says Pertti Norjos, Chief Information Officer, Gasum Group.

"In the future, Gasum will be able to centrally control its various biogas plants and gas filling stations as well as monitor container logistics with GPS. Furthermore, the system enables the company to centrally calculate total biogas sales and transfer data to its ERP system," adds Jani Hautaluoma, Director, Process Automation, Valmet.

Information about the Valmet DNA Integrated Operations solution

The Valmet DNA Integrated Operations solution for centralized data collection and container logistics handling for Gasum covers reporting, measurements, production planning, an interface to the ERP system and process optimization. With the data produced, the user can plan logistics efficiently, saving time and costs.

The Small Scale Virtual Pipeline (SSVP) solution enables an efficient use of filling stations with containers in an area as wide as possible. Valmet's solution brings efficiency and safety to daily container management. Containers are monitored with Yepzon's advanced technology, which features monitoring device batteries that stay charged for up to one year.

The data collection solution includes links with the company's filling station server and the server of the biogas plants in Sweden, as well as GPS, a history database and user tools, Ethernet routers, a connection to other external systems, archiving and reporting tools, and centralized monitoring.

Valmet's deliveries will include project management, factory acceptance testing and commissioning.
