Valmet Corporation's press release on December 18, 2014 at 09:30 a.m. EET

In 2014, Valmet has decided to donate funds to three global humanitarian and conservation organizations: Plan, the Red Cross and WWF. The selected organizations work for global campaigns to ensure education for girls in developing countries, provide humanitarian help in catastrophe areas, and help conserve forests. The donation will be directed to the global campaigns through the organizations' Finnish units.

"As a truly global company and in the spirit of the coming holiday season, we want to support three globally acknowledged humanitarian and conservation organizations. We will donate in total EUR 17,500 to these organizations based on the ranking of our personnel voting. This year most of the votes went to Plan's 'Because I am a girl' campaign, which will receive the majority of the donation," says Anu Salonsaari-Posti, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Valmet.

In addition, in Finland Valmet and its personnel will support the construction of a new children's hospital. Half of the donated funds, in total EUR 20,000, was collected by Valmet's personnel, the rest will be donated by Valmet.

About the global campaigns

Plan's 'Because I am a Girl' campaign aims to support millions of girls to get the education, skills and support they need to transform their lives and the world around them. Education is the most effective way to prevent and reduce poverty.

Through the Disaster Relief Fund the Red Cross helps the victims of natural disasters and conflicts around the world by delivering supplies, such as tents, blankets, clean drinking water or an entire field hospital to the disaster areas. The Red Cross also continuously helps to fight diseases and hunger together with local volunteers.

WWF works to conserve the world's most important forests to sustain nature's diversity. Forests are an important part of our ecosystem and provide a vast array of resources to all of us, including food, wood, medicine, fresh water, and the air we breathe.
