An ISO 14001 environmental certificate has been granted to Valmet Corporation’s Järvenpää units in Finland. The certificate covers the R&D, engineering, manufacturing, installation and maintenance services of the coaters & reels, calenders and winders units of the Paper Finishing Systems group.

Den Norske Veritas, the certification agency, officially presented the environmental certificate to Mr Martti Karttunen, President, Paper Finishing Systems, on Friday, April 14.

According to Martti Karttunen, environmental protection issues are an important part of overall business development. “It is essential for our competitiveness that our products and operations meet the highest international standards of environmental protection. We must bear in mind, too, that we serve the paper industry, for whom environmental questions are extremely important.”

The key environmental goal of the Järvenpää units is to produce products that are both efficient and safe, while minimizing the environmental impact. Accordingly, the amount of wastes and emissions has been reduced, and will be further reduced. The heightened environmental knowledge of the personnel makes the continuous improvement of operations possible.

Valmet Corporation is the world’s leading supplier of technology, systems and equipment for the pulp and paper, converting and panelboard industries. Valmet is a part of Metso Corporation, whose other business areas are automation and control technology, and machinery.
