The Metso Paper supplied PM 12 at Stora Enso Kvarnsveden mill in Sweden has set a new world speed record for SC paper production. The machine reached a 24-hour record of 1,900 m/min on 14-15 March. Prior to that the machine ran at a speed of 1,850 m/min for a period of 48 hours. The previous world speed record for SC grades was 1,815 m/min, also held by a Metso Paper supplied machine.

The production line runnability was excellent, and the minimum speed during the period was 1,901 m/min. There were no process limitations to exceed this speed but 1,900 was set as a target since it marks the year Kvarnsveden mill was established.

Kvarnsveden PM 12 was started up in November 2005. During the speed trial more than 1,600 tonnes of SC basepaper was produced per day. PM 12 is one of the largest investments that Stora Enso has ever made in Europe, and the biggest ESS (extended scope of supply) project by Metso Paper. The speed record was a result of continuous cooperation between the Kvarnsveden mill and Metso Paper.
