Metso Paper will supply Norske Skogindustrier ASA with a rebuild of their Saugbrugs PM 6 paper machine in Halden and paper finishing technology to the Saugbrugs and Skogn mills. In total, the orders are valued at close to EUR 15 million.

As a part of the Saugbrugs mill's systematic development program the PM 6 SC paper machine will be modernized with the latest headbox and forming technology. The existing headbox will be rebuilt to an OptiFlo II headbox and the SpeedFormer forming section will be upgraded to an OptiFormer section with loadable blades. The machine, which was originally supplied by Valmet in 1993, produces annually some 300,000 tons of SC-A and SC-A+ rotogravure grades. The rebuilt machine will come on stream in March 2007.

The Saugbrugs PM 6 papermaking line will also be supplied with leading-edge finishing technology. Winder no. 6-1, the wrapping machine and conveyors will be upgraded to handle super jumbo rolls up to 4,350 mm in width and 8 tons in weight. The Super Heavy Duty winding station and compliant winding drums improve roll hardness and quality of jumbo rolls. Winder no. 6-2 will be rebuilt with compliant winding drums to maintain the same roll quality on both winders. Start-up is scheduled for March 2007.

To the Skogn mill Metso Paper will supply a new fully automatic StreamLine Onesider wrapping machine with a capacity of 170 rolls per hour, and a conveyor system. The StreamLine wrapping machine will wrap all rolls from the mill's three paper machines, which produce a total of approx. 600,000 tons of newsprint per year. The new roll wrapping and handling systems will be taken into use in late 2006.
