Metso’s Columbus Service Center was the recipient of the first ever Green Bay Packaging “Outstanding Supplier” award. The award was received in recognition for benefits the mill has realized since entering into a Roll Service Agreement with Metso.

The mill has undertaken a substantial improvement campaign, initiated by Mill Manager Matt Szymanski, in an effort to revitalize not only their Number 1 linerboard machine but the overall mill environment as well. Szymanski put together an extraordinary team from the mill that was tasked with overseeing the continuous improvement program.

After achieving significant improvements in machine efficiency, cleanliness and productivity and in a number of work areas within the mill, the team turned their attention to cutting costs. The first target was to find savings in their roll program; repair, maintenance and covers. The mill chose to go with Metso because the Metso program offered a Continuous Improvement Agreement.

After working with Metso for a complete year long cycle under the program, Green Bay was impressed with the results of the cooperation agreement. So pleased was the mill that at one of the regularly scheduled team meetings, the mill surprised Metso by presenting them with the “Outstanding Supplier Award.” The mill actually developed the award because of this cooperative success between Metso and Green Bay Packaging. Szymanski told the assembled group, “This agreement with Metso will be the benchmark by which all other agreements this mill enters into will be judged.”
