CalPanther calender roll cover - top calendering endurance

Metso Paper is introducing a new roll cover for all types of calenders. The new composite CalPanther cover is suitable for online or offline soft calenders, supercalenders and modern multinip calenders. It can be applied equally well to all paper and board grades.

The CalPanther cover has a very good resistance against dents and marking, making it a very long lasting cover. Due to its high wear resistance, CalPanther gives long re-grinding intervals, even over 50 million nip cycles.

CalPanther is made at the most common calender cover hardness, 91 ShD. The cover is smooth, Ra 0.4 µm, and it becomes smoother in use. This makes it especially ideal for calendering paper that must feature the highest gloss and smoothness.

The new cover tolerates very high temperatures. CalPanther's transient temperature is DSC 160 °C (320 °F), which means excellent thermal durability even on the critical edge areas outside the web. Even in the toughest calendering conditions with some process irregularities, it is less prone to develop hot spots than earlier-generation covers. For example, in repeated tests, CalPanther was able to endure one third more nip load than similar older generation covers.

CalPanther's main features:

- high temperature resistance, in continuous operation 130 °C (265 °F) - high load endurance, tolerates up to 450 kN/m (2500 PLI) - excellent toughness - economy in operation - repairability

CalPanther covers are produced at Metso Paper's facilities in Europe, North America and Asia. They are available around the world for any roll size, diameter or length.
