Within the first two hours of CMM International opening its doors in Chicago on 12 April, an Atlas Converting Equipment FK1650 Dead Knife Sheeter was sold to a Canadian printing company, Prodigy Graphics Group Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario, directly from the Valmet Converting Group booth.

Prodigy Graphics President, Andy Patel said, “We chose the Atlas sheeter because of the equipment’s ease of operation and automation features. It will more than double our sheeting capacity and allows us to lower costs and improve the quality of our products. At 1000 feet per minute, this sheeter is more than twice as fast as our current machine”.

This particular sale is believed to be a show record, but on Day Three of the event, yet another sheeter contract was signed by Atlas to supply a very similar specification machine to Artistic Printing Co. of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The decision to purchase was based on the machine’s advanced technical features and the high accuracy and quality of the sheet cutting system.

Artistic Printing had spent the previous two days researching other manufacturer’s machines at the Show, but felt most assured by the combination of Atlas machine quality and the security and backup offered by the Valmet Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of paper and converting machinery.

Steve Brimble, Product Manager of Atlas Converting Equipment’s Sheeter Division summed up his feelings, “We are delighted with the customer reaction to our machinery at CMM. This has reinforced our belief that the North American market has a need for a high quality, high specification converters’ sheeter and provides a sound basis for a planned sales campaign in North America.”

But Mr. Brimble explained that there is more good news to come. “Atlas will launch a new, competitively priced and cost effective converter’s type sheeter later this year. The development programme for a new, twin-synchronous cutting head with many advanced features will also be complete by the end of this year”.

“Our ability, as part of Valmet Converting Group, to provide a range of Atlas sheeters and winders together with other equipment including, coaters, laminators, metallizers, unwind/rewind systems and gravure & flexo printing presses, delivers substantial benefits to our global customer base”.
