Metso Corporation’s largest business area is Fiber and Paper Technology. It was formed by combining the former Valmet Corporation’s paper technology operations with Rauma Corporation’s Sunds Defibrator business, and established as the new Valmet Corporation, on 1 July 1999.
The following appointments have become effective on 1 July 1999:
Mr Juhani Pakkala has been appointed President, Valmet Corporation. His former position was President, Valmet Inc., in the United States.
The Valmet Corporation Head Office is located in Jyväskylä, Finland, and comprises the following operations: Finance and administration, Senior Vice President, Mr Kari Littunen. Human resources, Senior Vice President, Ms Hilkka Alatalo-Korpi. Marketing and communications, Senior Vice President, Mr Leo Allo. Research and technology development, Senior Vice President, Mr Reima Kerttula. Strategic development, Senior Vice President, Mr Juhani Kyytsönen. Legal matters, Senior Vice President, Mr Henrik Bergendahl and Senior Vice President, Ms. Erica Aminoff. Coordination of Resources, Senior Vice President, Mr Martti Karttunen. They all report to Mr Juhani Pakkala, President.

Valmet Fiber Technology Business Group comprises three Business Lines: Chemical Pulping Lines, Mechanical Pulping Lines, and Panelboard Lines. Chemical Pulping Lines, President, Mr Hannu Hakamäki, located in Pori, Finland. Mechanical Pulping Lines, President, Mr Håkan Norberg, located in Sundsvall, Sweden. Valmet Service consists of four Business Processes: Parts and Consumables, Rolls and Roll Workshop Services, Projects and Process Solutions, and Cooperation Agreements and Mill Services; and of five Operative Areas: Nordic Countries, Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and South America.
